Preparing Your Fiber
Quality Fleece = Quality Products
The Spindrift mission is to meet or exceed your expectations for
your fiber products. We prefer to skirt and wash your fleeces to meet our standards
if you like. We will also contact you regarding pre washed fiber that is felted
or otherwise not able to be processed in our machines. The quality of fiber is
affected long before any shearing takes place and many factors can play a part
in how the fiber will be processed. Fiber evaluation is the key to achieving
desired results. Take a good look at yours before deciding which process is
best for you. These are a few suggestions that you may already be implementing.
·
Make sure there are no pests in your fleece.
·
Remove as much bedding, feed, and crud as
possible.
·
Shear on a mat or other clean, dry surface.
·
When possible shear before birthing takes place.
·
Please don’t pay extra shipping charges to send
us heavy globs of mud or chunks of manure. Of course, we can skirt for you but,
the sooner most of the debris is removed, the better.
·
Store your fleeces where they can breathe and
stay dry. Well stored fleeces can be processed even years later.
·
Only clean, strong fiber with consistent staple
lengths can produce top quality yarns. Other fibers can be used for roving,
batts, and felts.
