Washing Carding, Picking, Pin Drafting, Felting, Spinning

Yarn Product made at Spindrift Fibers Inc. Thank you for considering Spindrift Fibers Inc. for your processing needs. Below you will find a listing of the services we offer and costs. When preparing your fiber for shipping it will reduce your cost for both shipping and processing if you remove excess debris and second cuts.

With your shipment please include a 25% deposit of your estimated processing cost and a copy of our printable order form to each batch of fleece to ensure proper processing. When we complete your order we will send you a billing statement for the remainder due. Your finished products will be shipped upon receipt of payment. We will store your finished order up to 30 days at no cost. After that time a storage fee will be added to your account. Any order not paid for within 60 days after final billing will become the property of Spindrift Fibers Inc, unless special arrangements have been made.

Skirting

Skirting is $15.00 per hour after the first 1/2 hour to remove excess debris. If it is determined that we cannot process your fleece we’ll contact you.

Washing

The cost of washing is based on incoming weight. Although you may wash your own fiber, we prefer to do it at the mill as this avoids the possibility of felting and the addition of detergents or conditioners that may destroy the fiber. When we receive fiber that is not clean enough to be processed or contaminated with residue, it will have to be rewashed before processing.

Wool	$ 3.00 - per lb.	If your fiber is greasy or contains any of the following: Conditioner Fabric Softener Soapy residues It will need to be rewashed.
Exotics, Fine wool and Mohair	$ 5.00 - per lb.
Rewashing	$ 2.75 - per lb.
These wash only prices include 30 minutes of skirting. Additional skirting will be billed as stated in the skirting section above.

Picking, Carding, and Blending for Roving and Batts

Attention: We use raw weight to figure processing cost.

A more complete job of blending can be achieved at the picking stage of our process. Please let us know if you would like the more mottled appearance that comes from blending at the carding stage. We also offer a second carding. This is a service used by clients that use our pick blending to achieve an even more uniform blend.

Many exotic fibers such as Alpaca may require a second picking.

On the order form that you fill out please indicate if you want your fiber returned as Rovings, Batts, or Clouds.

Wool	$ 5.50 - per lb.	For Your Consideration: Some of the finer types of fiber might need to be blended with at least 20% wool to process.
Fine wool & 100% Exotics	$ 7.50 - per lb.
Exotics blended with wool	$ 6.50 - per lb.
Additional processing services	$ 6.50 - per lb.
Pick blending -second picking	$ 1.50 - per lb. $ 1.50 - per lb.
Second carding blend	$ 3.00 - per lb.
These prices include washing, picking, tumbling, and carding. Batts 26"x50" and Clouds for hand spinning are NO EXTRA CHARGE or your can get your rovings in 8oz balls for $1 each

Pin Drafting

Wool & Blends	$ 3.00 - per lb.	Blends must be a least 20% or more wool to qualify for the discounted rate.
100% Exotics	$ 5.00 - per lb.

Felts

Our needle felted sheets per batt are approximately 30 by 40 inches and can be made to whichever thickness and firmness you choose on the order form. Fine fiber types may need to be blended to make stronger felts that do not shed. Fibers with good crimp felt best.
Finished Felts will weigh between 10 -16 ozs.

$ 3.50 - per batt plus the original processing fee. Batts can be joined at the ends for longer lengths of finished felts.

Spinning

Spindrift offers spinning service for 100% alpaca fiber. Please provide a sample of yarn. It will help us match the weight and thickness. Also, include on your questionnaire if you would like ply of different colors mixed and how you would like your fiber processed if we deem it unsuitable for spinning.
